Preparation; no prep...no glory...

Although our products require minimal preparation, the surface you are painting on should be firm and free of grease and dust. Our range of preparation products are designed to give maximum results.

Is it true that sanding is never necessary?

No, good (chalk) paint adheres well to all surfaces. But it is a myth that chalk paint never needs to be sanded. If the surface is sufficiently rough and clean, sanding is usually unnecessary. This is because adhesion occurs through a chemical reaction in which the molecules form a network that adheres well to the rough surface.

But if you paint a very smooth surface with chalk paint, the roughness is missing, and the net will not adhere well, if at all. Think about glass or melamine objects. Chalk paint may look good, but it will eventually peel off, or at least be very susceptible to scratches from use.

So it is a fairy tale that is often used only for commercial purposes. By the way, sanding does not have to be a dirty job. You usually don't even need a sander. Just roughen the surface with sandpaper. This will create a honeycomb surface and quadruple your bonding surface, which will make the chalk paint adhere exceptionally well. The netting will adhere perfectly and you can be proud of the long-lasting result.

Our preparation products

Safely remove existing coatings with Bio Strip, our bio-based paint stripper

Standard paint strippers contain chlorides and can be dangerous to use.

Bio Strip is a safe alternative. Biodegradable, yet powerful. You can remove all types of paints, waxes and varnishes. Just apply a coat of Bio Strip and watch the magic happen. Some older paints and varnishes, such as solvent-based products, require extra treatment. In this case, you may need an extra coat of Bio Strip.

Bio Strip also works when you just want to reveal the charm of natural wood. After applying Bio Strip and removing paint, we strongly recommend cleaning the surface with Omniclean.

A lot more power than sugar soap. Omniclean is an industrial-grade solution for cleaning surfaces

Cleaning is one thing, but cleaning with Omniclean is something else.

Where standard cleaners leave acid or alkaline residue, Omniclean prepares a surface ready for painting. Omniclean is powerful. We offer Omniclean in a 1L bottle or a 250ml recycled PET jar. For standard cleaning, simply add 1 part Omniclean to 3 parts water. If you are cleaning a heavily soiled surface, increase the dilution to 1 part Omniclean to 1 part water.

Omniclean is more powerful than sugar soap.

Prevent bleeding through on wood or uneven suction on walls with our low VOC stainblocking primer

Autentico only offers products that are sustainable but powerful.

Working with water-based paints sometimes requires a little extra attention. Some types of wood, such as oak, pine and chestnut, contain tannins that react when they come into contact with water-based paint. The result is a chemical reaction that causes yellow/purple stains to appear on your valuable work. This process is called "bleeding through". Simply apply a coat of our insulating primer to prevent this from happening. Autentico Stain Blocking Primer is also needed to prevent uneven suction on walls after repairs.
